A place for all my poetry, regardless of location in other areas of my portfolio

Shattered Faith
Late at night, when the stars reach the end
And slide to the ground to find a place to die,
My soul awakes to witness the angel's battle
Between the light and dark shadows where I form--
Haunting my brain with unwanted memories.
I wish I could fall with the stars and blanket
The hidden depths of a tortured nightmare.

Inside a universe-- so small yet greatly vast--
I remember the way the day did end.
And I heard the cries of heaven's forgotten lines,
Of souls like mine trying to pretend
They belonged to the light when darkness
Came for them--bringing them down to Hell's
Gates, where their eternity would begin

I wait for one to claim me as their own--
But neither side will say for me to come in
From the purgatory that is earth, where I
Reside in a forgotten loop, a bottle of
Champaign held half empty in my hand,
A token of the tears that always flow
As celestial feelings engulf my troubled soul.

God or demon-- which one will gain control
And release me from a prison without strings
Attached, and guide me back into the fold
Of sheep serving time in the night's contrasting sky--
Guarded by hearts tempted by original sins--
So gallantly paid by a savior forever unseen,
Not knowing which side I serve: the light or the dark?

Instead, I pray to idol Gods, trying to beat the odds--
As statues promise your soul to repent,
Cold beings without a purpose except to me and mine--
A church that is built on wet and shifting sand,
Ready to plunge into the ocean on a whim,
Taking me down a path so far untraveled--
Leaving the frays of my soul unraveled.
