The main features of sonnets are:

They must have 14 lines
Each line has 10 syllables
A fixed pattern of rhymes
They consist of three quatrains and a final couplet

It is hard to compose a good sonnet
There are many technical things to see
"How difficult can it really get?"
Is the question that Lilli asked of me.

"I have not tried one yet, dear sister."
"Well I am challenging you 'coz you can!"
"But it is a humdinger brain twister
Every line needs a complicated plan!"

They counted syllables like a child's game
You know well enough I cannot do that!"
