I Told You It Would Work
I followed Celia into the building trying not to feel unsettled by the fact that she had picked the lock to get us in. I fought the bile that rose in my throat as I forced myself to hurry along behind her. There was no backing out now. I was in.

We headed up to the third floor and Celia got us into Professor Astor's office. She immediately headed for his computer and turned it on.

"You sure this is going to work?" I asked fighting the rising panic by dragging in some deep breaths.

"Relax," she muttered not taking her eyes off the screen. Her fingers flew over the keyboard. I could swear she had done this before, but I kept quiet.

I listened to the odd noises of the space and kept my eyes on the exit. I wanted to go. That's when I heard it. The elevator surging to life.

"Celia," I hissed feeling a wave of panic wash over me. I felt light headed. Ready to pass out.

"I got it. I told you it would work," she whispered excitedly.

"We got to get out of here. Someone's coming."

"No problem," With a few key strokes the computer shut down and we clung to the shadows making our way back to the stairwell just as the elevator door binged and began to slide open.

We tumbled into the stairwell. My heart pumping my in ears as we flew down the stairs.

Back out in the coolness of the night I bent over and dragged in breaths. Celia began to giggle. When I looked over at her she was grinning.

"That was such a rush."

I could only shake my head and pray I never had to do that again.
