"What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted?" - Jimmy Ruffin

Back in my youth, I was aware of Motown - well, it was nigh on impossible not to be - but I could take it or leave it. A few years ago I acquired a multiple CD set of the "best" of Motown. It's only when you hear the hits back-to-back that you realise just what a production line they had in their heyday. And that's just on the limited playlist on a "best of" CD set.

This is by one of the lesser-known artists that worked for Motown. While he had a solid career and worked with many other performers, this is probably the only one he's going to be remembered for in the long term.

When I heard this for the first time in all those years, I did have a struggle not to join in with the "alternative" lyrics from my school days.

"What becomes of the broken-hearted?
Paid a penny and only farted..."
