Honour the Wild
We are a selfish lot - we banter and invade
Take what does not belong to us
Endangering those lives that cannot defend themselves
Against the onslaught of disregard.
Colonization has taken lives - carted them off and boxed them up
Deeming them less, because they are not like us.
The wild suffers because of our carelessness
We owe reconciliation
Not patterned words uttered mindlessly
But in action; giving back
Appreciating what everything has to offer
Both in culture of those oppressed
And in the wild nature that surrounds us
Take time to offer thanks;
Take time to watch the birds flit and dance
The deer graze in the field
Gentle eyes, accepting and pure.
Remember we are wild too
If we slow down and let the creative life bubble up
Instinctive and free.
