Walking with Shadows

In the sunrise of life, I boldly walked
A new sun at my back
My shadow stretched before me like a promise
Long arms rippled over the hills
Flowed into the valleys
Reached into the unknown

As I traveled, my shadow stood astride
I kept it close by me
We went toe to toe with the day
Every battle fought together
How wonderful it was, life pumping into every limb
Running for the future

Now, I see the sunset nearing
The last golden hour is mine
The shadows throw themselves down
An ever-lengthening story of
Memories trailing into the distance
As the light goes out
