A Mother's Sacrifice

I've had to get older to realize the sacrifices my mother has made,
The challenges she's faced
Without complaint.
The stress she faced often brought her to the brink
But she sucked it up and kept going
One step at a time.
Never letting me see my father as anything less
Than a good dad
Even if his unfaithfulness severed our family beyond repair.
Living under the umbrella of depression
She faced judgements, I have no doubt.
But she rose above
So much stronger than she even realized.
Moving us away from small town prejudices
To the city
Where open, liberated views
Let us thrive and grow.
