365 Days of Blessing _ May 9, 2023

Dear God,

There is often some confusion as to what are my rights and privileges. Should I dare cause more confusion around what I am entitled to in this life? God forbid!

Your Son Jesus makes it clear. I am first of all a servant. Your servant Dear Lord. Whatever my assignment, there are expectations around that assignment. Those expectations are to be born by me. If I do everything, and do it with excellence, I have done only what was expected of me by my Master. My duty.

What ease I may take after that point is not what I deserve because of the good that I have done, but only because I have completed that day’s assignment. If all that I have done is what was my “duty,” then I am considered an unworthy servant. There is still more good to be done at the end of the day, no matter what my self centered flesh may declare its just portion.

Luke 17:7-10

Will any one of you who has a servant; plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘come at once and recline at table’?

Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’?

Dose he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?

So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’

My dearest Lord, let me consider my assignment as my duty and the minimum I will do. Beyond that, my praise is for you my Father, not that I deserve anything, but, rather, that You are to be praised. I will offer up a sacrifice of joy and be a delight to You, my Master. I love Your ways, Your Word and Your truth my Lord. Strengthen me for the journey. Strengthen me for tomorrow's labor. Thank You. Amen.
