A blog detailing my writing over the next however long. |
January 20, 2023, 1:00pm While it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, I had what could be considered a small success today. I am a list-maker. I have lists of everything saved on so many computers it is embarrassing. Well, according to the list I have collated of things I have written that are complete, today I finished my 1000th short story. One thousand complete short stories. Some are drabbles (100 words), the longest is 12400 words. (In my list, I use the definition of a short story finishing at 12,499 words, a novella starting at 12,500 words.) Because I am a great big nerd, I have my Excel spreadsheet set to not only count, but give me stats. So I have produced around 2,230,000 words of short stories completed since 1983, giving an average of 2230 words per story. I will also say that, in my files, there are around 40 short stories that have not been completed yet. So, there we are - a kilostory. A grand of stories? A lot of stories. And only 90 have been published... [If anyone is interested, I recently had an online "discussion" on my thoughts on self-publishing. I could put together what I 'said' (wrote) that resulted in me losing a friend, and give my personal thoughts. But only if people are interested.] |
