The trip [Week 23 entry]

The trip


Highways big, byways small
run past signs instructing me
how many miles to drive before I sleep.

Pushing past nature's call
harder still - Thank you, coffee! -
I yield at last to the lure of sleep cheap

touted on bright billboards.
I ignore obscenities
through paper-thin walls, and soon fall asleep.

I skirt the madding hordes
and skip most amenities,
hoping day's end finds me home with my Jeep.
