April 27, 2022 I Don't Know What to Call This
I Don't Know What to Call It

Please don't think me crazy
or delusional
but I've had this thing
with numbers
since I learned how to count.
It has remained with me
to this day.

In my mind, each digit
takes on a personality
and a story plays out before me
depending on the equation.

I most relate to the number Four.
She is me.
Don't ask, I don't have an answer.
Six is her hero,
they are often lovers
seeking to be together.
Seven is the antagonist,
forever spoiling
the plot. I've grown to hate him
over the decades.
And Three is a critical
old woman, (Six's mother)
you know, the bad mother-in-law.

Should I say more?
The number Five is an irritating nit
that just gets in the way all of the time,
like a little brother.
The wise woman is the number Eight.
She is a shape changer.
I could go on but then
you might put me in the looney bin.

There is no word for this,
it has evolved as I matured
but hasn't gone away.
It is not deliberate, I don't call it up.
It just happens and the dramedy goes on.
By the way, I was never good at math.
