Sidewalk Birds
Six years ago I bought
a pack of 12, still inside
clear plastic. I choose
3 colors, one for each
square along my house.

With blue I draw a bird
inside an egg inside an
earth. I use water and
blend in stars, and one
behemoth eye, blinking.

In red I sketch a rose
but its petals fall away
before I can complete it
so it too becomes a bird.
(I can tell it has flown).

In green I abandon hope
of drawing anything else
and make 2 more birds,
tiny tropical vacationers
waiting for rain's release.
