Lady Spring
Lady Spring
Spring is the aristocratic lady,
hair tied up but wisps escaping,
faded floral dress, knee length and belted,
green wellies muddied with dirt,
worn gloves dusted with the estate,
eyes pinched in determination,
face lined with the cares of ages,
a rock in the stream,
vicissitude her middle name,
and change her nemesis.
She is the last line of defence,
winter raging at her defiance,
summer dreaming in the city,
she stands insistent,
her words in cultured voice,
“This, too, shall pass.”
