βIt is not your duty to be average. It is your duty to set a higher example for others to follow.β -Lincoln Alexander Words spoken Strong and true A legacy of a man Beautifully Black He walked tall, With a certain bearing that meant business. With a dream and a quiet strength He honoured not just his own history But those of all Who wanted to set an example For others to follow. Education was his banner. His footsteps sure, Though not without struggle and toil paved the way for others - Men and women with significant talents. Equity for all Canadian pride This man helped to make our country great Opened eyes To see the beauty of mankind - Human kind In all its diversity. We are greater when we embrace Share our stories of pain and triumph And raise each other up. He taught us that And we remember him In our hearts and minds forever. Words = 133 Lines = 29 Prompt: Black History Month - February 2022 - African Americans impact our society throughout history in numerous ways. Who are you honoring this month?
