About This Newsletter Women's history month theme for 2022: “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope” Letter From the Editor Can you name some women who provide healing and promote hope? There are numerous women today who accomplish these tasks. There were many women in the past who did this, as well. Unfortunately, they never got the recognition they deserved. And several of them gave their lives providing healing and promoting hope. Today, some of these women are famous, while the names of others are still obscure. Some of the women from the past who give me hope are Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mary of Magdala, Tahirih, and Bahiyyih Khanum. Tahirih, the only woman among the Bab's Letters of the Living, was a Persian mystic poet. In 1848, at a conference--with 80 men and 1 woman in attendance--in Badasht, Iran, she removed her veil. Tahirih was martyred in 1852, and her last words are said to be: "You can kill me anytime, but you cannot prevent the emancipation of women." Bahiyyih Khanum, the only daughter of Baha'u'llah and His wife, Ásíyih Khánum, was born in 1846. Along with the rest of the family, she followed her father into exile and never returned to Iran. She remained firm in the Baha'i faith all her live. At intervals after her father's death--when 'Abdu'l-Baha was not in Akka--she assumed leadership of the family and the faith. Who are some of the women, either living or dead, who give you hope? Are their women in your culture or religion that are not known by the rest of the world, who give you hope?
