Blog about your most memorable flight or other form of transportation. Was it your dream trip or nightmare journey?

The trip I took to California in December will live in my memory as a surreal journey. For many reasons. I discussed it in my regular blog.

The last three entries were my complaining about that trip.

So I'll go back in time. The very first time I left the US continent was back in the Viet Nam era. My first husband was in Viet Nam and I was in Ohio. We married then after 6 weeks he went to Viet Nam. He had a week off after 6 months, called rest and recuperation or R&R, and we decided to meet in Hawaii. I reserved the hotel room in my maiden name. Ha. We did stupid things, like just driving around, shopping, a drive-in movie. We never even went to Pearl Harbor. And of course, spent time in the hotel room.

So my first time in an airplane and the first time out of the continental US and I'm headed to Hawaii. And it was in March. Well, in March in Ohio it is still winter. So I got a terrible sunburn during our time there. The week was okay, that kind of was a foretelling of the marriage now that I think of it. Anyway, I flew back to Ohio in a miserable state, with what was probably a severe burn, for an eight-hour plane flight.

I'm still angry all these decades later about not visiting that historic site, Pearl Harbor. I'll probably never get a chance to get back there again. So I guess it was the first of my nightmare journeys.
