Texas, ho! [Week 25 entry]
Texas, ho!
Done with Basic, homeward bound
with some leave time - real sweet sound.
Spend some time with friends and family
and, of course, my lovely honey.
Trips by car were fun for us,
but this time out, I'm on the bus.
I'm off to Texas - techie school.
It's on the west side, could be cool.
The Valley Highway takes us south;
I watch the Rockies with open mouth.
'Cross Oklahoma - that's a plus -
we roll along; I'm on the bus.
Past Amarillo - Lubbock, too -
the great South Plains come into view.
In Big Spring deaf kids join our troupe;
they seem to be a happy group.
They sign with hands, and maybe cuss,
but I don't care: I'm on the bus!
Prompt: Riding on the Bus. Write a poem based on a time you’ve traveled by bus – whether a school bus, around town, or a long distance trip to visit a certain destination.
Form Note: The Collins Stanza or Sestet is written in any number of sixains (at least three are required), has a rhyme scheme aabbcC ddeecC ffggcC etc., with the meter at the poet's discretion.
