Starting a Non-profit Is Hard

Hey Loyal Readers!!

Let me first apologize for my extended absence in September. Life has taken another crazy turn, and now I am a Chapter President for our local Chapter of the National Federation for Families. Our organization works to provide peer support services, advocacy and collaboration to help families who have mental health challenges or addiction challenges. I am super excited for the work that we will be doing, but who knew that running a new nonprofit startup would entail so much work? Geesh!! No wonder I'm going to bed exhausted! But I am also loving every minute of what I am doing, and I am learning so much!!!!! I am learning about everything from grant proposals, setting up a board of directors, local community resources, to creating a nonprofit business plan and collaborating with local, state and national groups. Even learning about putting together the proper HIPAA forms and policies to creating training and staff handbooks has been challenging, but well-worth the time! And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to starting this chapter up!!! Hopefully, we will have a website soon as well as a Facebook page - and when we do, I'll be sure to share the links here!

Anyway, just wanted to check in and let y'all know what's up - Once my schedule gets a bit more flexible, I am hoping to spend a bit more time here on WDC!!
