The turning [Week 16 entry]
The turning
An alpine vale as green as peas
begins to change as summer flees,
and mountainsides of aspen trees
detect the nip of early freeze.
Their leaves light up like fiery bees
with colors bright, as if to please
an awestruck hiker on his knees.
The colors fade by slow degrees,
though die-hard stands still brightly tease.
As yellows dull like aging cheese,
a hiker thinks about his skis
and Breckenridge's chairlift fees.
Prompt: The first day of fall, in the Northern Hemisphere, is this Wednesday, September 22nd. For this weeks' poem, write about Autumn.
Form Note: An autumnal monorhyme.
