About This Newsletter Holiday Greeting Cards Sending a holiday greeting card is a wonderful way to brighten someone's day. Letter From the Editor It is the holiday season again, with sad and joyful memories of the ghosts of holidays past. One of my favorite memories, from my childhood, are the holiday cards that my parents and grandparents received and sent through the mail. After Christmas, my Grandmother would take the cards apart, and use the fronts of them to make little boxes to put small, lightweight trinkets or pieces of jewelry in. Grandma would cut the cards into pentagons or hexagons and sew them together with red or green knitting yarn. Most of the holiday cards that Grandma received had scripture verses in them, with a short greeting wishing a Merry Christmas. Some of them were New Year's card wishing a Joyous or Happy New Year. Others wished her and her family a Happy Holiday. As a child, I enjoyed looking at them and watch Grandma make her homemade jewelry boxes (as she called them). I always smile when I remember the way Grandma and Grandpa recycled everything they could. Grandma was very creative in her approach to recycling. I remember she kept a box of bows from Christmas and birthday present to reuse, usually on gifts to her grandchildren. However, it was the way she recycled Christmas and birthday cards that brought me the most joy. I also remember some of the pictures on the cards. I enjoyed the ones with snowmen, bells, and religious scenes on them. Once of especially remember having the picture of a "wise man" riding a camel and following the Christmas star. I do not remember which scripture verse was on the inside or the greeting it contained, because it was the picture on the front that caught and held my attention. Do you or did your parents/grandparents have a special way of recycling holiday cards? Do you receive or send cards for the holidays or birthdays? Is there a holiday card that you always remember because of the picture or the inscription inside? Editors Picks

The holidays for me were wonderful, but now I tend to remember the root reasons for them and leave the rest. writes: writes: writes: writes: writes: writes: |
