Fall
from ‘ember to ‘ember
fire falling from the sky

extinguished by the cold
leaves scuttle along the sidewalk
(the wind is such a scold)
mutter against season’s clock

(clearing the pavement like a broom
chasing the tree’s litter, red and gold)

leaves huddle in corners, find no warmth
fugitives backed up against the wall
the world must be transformed
summer’s glory must fall
