Art imitating life
Remember that scene in Volcano where the lava is racing through the sewer tunnels and you're thinking to yourself: "No way! That's all CGI." I'll go along with you on the 'presence' of lava in LA's sewers, but I've gotta give 'em props for showing how fast it can move. Don't think so? Check this out from that active volcano in Iceland:
