Reminder to all passengers: Tonight is Formal Night in the dining room. We look forward to seeing you in your finest, looking dazzling! Sometime in the night I awake to find Andre gone, again, leaving my cabin door ajar. I pushed it shut and settled down to sleep a bit more. I’m still worried about my credit card. I cancelled it when we had internet service. And when checking the account, I see that whoever stole it charged when we were on Key West. Drinks, cigars, bananas, cakes, and a bottle of sunscreen. I’ll bet Andre was the culprit, little bugger. Breakfast is early. I arrive to find fresh fruit and toast, coffee and half-awake tour buddies. I sat near PiriPica , Lazy Writer est 4/24/2008 , and PandaPaws Licensed VetTech . The coffee got refilled several times as we tried to wake up. But soon the sun made it too hot to sit on deck. Rising to get below to my cabin, I spied Andre. That little rascal was on the upper deck, hanging from the railing. He screeched and whooped it up, all the time holding something in his right hand, or is it paw? Well, that little bugger looked like he had a credit card. And he’s waving it and pointing at me! “Hey! Andre! You little thief, is that my card? Bring that here!” Hearing my shouting, Andre jumped down from the railing onto our table. He knocked over the fruit, the toast. The others stood up, we grabbed our coffee cups and watched as Andre galloped away down the deck and out of sight. “Holy cow,” said PiriPica . “He’s getting out of control. Someone should do something.” I put my cup down. What’s this? Floating in the cafe mocha was my credit card. Slick little simian. I dragged my sorry butt back to the boat by 4 PM. Just. Let me tell you, I’m still upset that my crazy bunkmate, Andre, took my place in line for the Mayan ruins. They only take twenty people on that tour. Andre made twenty. I tried to convince them he wasn’t human. He didn’t count. But the language barrier didn’t help. They called him ‘el changito’. I called him ‘the rotten little creepy monster’. So after I wasted an hour on that effort, I found lunch and decided some tequila was in order. And then a bit more. They had to tell me to leave once I started dancing on the table. So now I am back at the ship getting ready for the big formal dinner tonight. But the bunk is calling. Andre woke me at 7 PM when he hit me on the head with a tequila bottle. “Hey! That hurt!” Andre jumped on my chest, hit my head again, this time with one of my high heels. “Okay! Okay, I’m awake. Knock it off!” Andre smacked me, ran out the door. Good riddance is all I could think. Maybe he’d find someone else to menace. The formal dinner began at 8 PM. I arrived at 8:15 PM. The Captain was a bit miffed. “I’m sorry. I had a hard time finding my shoes. Apologies.” “Miss NormaJean. We’ve been waiting for you. Now we can get started.” The Captain turned from me, signaled the waitstaff. Did he sound just a little cynical, or was it just me? I took my assigned seat. We all enjoyed a festive dinner with plenty of margaritas. They even had a mariachi band on board for the evening. We sat under the stars and swapped tales. The ship gently rocked. Andre was nowhere in sight. Great fun. Queen NormaJean II GreenEyes |
