Aunt Abby liked to bark...

Maybe, Aunt Abby had Tourette's syndrome.
She didn't bark all the time.
It was an occasional outburst.
At a Christmas dinner, Aunt Abby barked several times.
She barked only twice during a Thanksgiving blessing.

She would bark while speaking on the phone.
Mom said Aunt Abby barked as a child.
Her parents took her to a doctor and a Priest.
This was in the 1920s and Tourette's syndrome was not known.
I met Aunt Abby in the 1970s and I was clueless.

She would make a sharp arf if excited.
But, mostly barked in the middle of conversations.
Then there were visits with no barking.
She was married and had a normal family with a cute daughter.
Her husband was a businessman.
She growled and barked at him when they argued.

I reasoned he might have something to do with Aunt Abby's barking.
Mom told me Abby got down on all fours and barked in the playground
when they were children...
I asked if they owned a dog.
They did not.
I don't know what was going on with Aunt Abby.

Reflections~Can you explain Aunt Abby's barking?
