The Big Bang Gives Me a Headache
The universe is mostly empty space
incalculable emptiness
and yet, once not even emptiness existed
it took a big bang
to create it
I can’t count to thirteen billion
a finite number of years since birth
There’s no time to count to four billion
years for the Earth but I do remember
that the door to our bathroom
cleared the sink by one-sixteenth of an inch
a space that could close to a pinch
on a finger that was overlooked
and my finite mind is not large enough
to wrap around the knowledge
that unless the pressure to become
had exploded and created the emptiness
my house would never have existed
and there still would not have been room for me
