Never Alone/Never Lonely
The slap of the ocean waves is sending me
back some twenty years.
I speak of a place that haunts me.
Where there is celebration every night,
still, at evening's end,
where I first fell in love with Venice.

I watched the fishermen at the Pier,
netting slippery fish, breath-taking,
the waters deep and dangerous.
My love has taken me there many times,
as miracles pass.

These memories will taunt me when I am
old and golden.
I think of he and I like Lennon and Ono,
bare-bottomed and unashamed of love's
great metaphorical abyss.
Since the day we met, I have been fulfilled.
In my heart, the light shines from his eyes,
taking me into the deep blue sea
like dolphins gathering speed.
With this, and each word I use, I am never
lonely and never alone.

The breadth of my soul has satisfied
my desolate moments, caught up in an alien
world of fantasy,
telling me I am much more than just a notch
in his belt.

I will careen around the beach, soon,
white wine on my breath.
Some people say I may die quickly in the
thick, thick dust.
Perhaps, I'll sail out on a dream and prove
them wrong.
