Tornado watch and angel wings
Winter 7 'Ala (March 8)

2006-03-08
afternoon, 77 degrees. 42 in West Seneca, NY

Tornado watch here. Flood watch where a friend lives in WNY. Don't know whether Cazenovia creek will be involved.

Aaaargh ... computers and libraries and library computers ......

Wish I had my own! Did once, but by now it would be outdated anyways.

Heard from my friend Kev. At least he and the family had fun for Ayyám-i-Há. I sure didn't. Hard to feel left out of things.

No rain yet, but with severe weather warnings, one never knows.

Did finally get to read Cadfael. Even did more geneology and found my mother's-father's mother in the 1870 census when she was 2 *Smile*. Now I can add Hookers to my list of family names. And her mom came from Ireland. One more nationality added. I'm sure if I could trace further, I'd end up being related to half the folk here at WDC!

SENSED

Two drunks sprawled out on the lawn; clothes hanging from trees; cigarette butts; quince coming into bloom; forsythia; youth playing with water cannons; Sarah's scream; students sitting on the front stoop.

75 degrees. 63 rain-cooled degrees in Tahlequah, OK.

Got a nice email from Diana. I lamented in my response that the people I knew in Oklahoma were warmer than my experience here. It's true. This town is aloof, cerebral, abstract, argumentative. Tahlequah was just dirt poor and real; lots of heart people.

Guess the tornado watch has been canceled here but they have one in Tahlequah now. Tis the season.

GETTING TO KNOW ME

92. Carpet or hardwood? Anything but linoleum; although, it does have its uses! I like oak hardwood. Prefer dark plush green carpet. Can't imagine trying to keep white clean! Not with this klutz *Bigsmile*.

93. Favorite period of visual art: Impressionism.

94. Favorite period of music: Impressionism.

95. I was raised on van Gogh and Debussy, what dare I say! I like the dreamy feel to the period.

96. Favorite pieces of Claud Debussy: Girl with the Flaxen Hair; Sunken Cathedrals; Claire de Lune; Arabesques.

97. Dawn or dusk? Dusk. Dawn comes too early. I really like the gloaming too.

98. Bath or shower? Gimme hot water in a deep claw tub that I can refill when the water gets cold! I take a shower every day. Don't have access to a tub *Frown*.

99. bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer ... I really like green glass; although, cobalt is awesome, rose or ruby is great. Irridescent is fine. Crystal is what our family had a lot of. Well, just say I like glass. You can keep the beer.

Which reminds me of collecting glass for Tuija years ago. She had a glass course at Alfred and was doing sculpture. She was from Finland and had a roommate from Norway. Odd to remember that after so many years. Her last name was sometinhg like Silanmääki. Finnish has long and short vowels and I cannot remember which ones were which.

A sketch from March 2nd:

Angelwings

i

Ryan leads the children through the caves
awed by glistening waters seep, scared
by a bat that brushes by their face,
an angel's breath or wind upon its wings.

ii

The car swerves to avoid the child,
kills the nerves of watching parents,
brushes againt a sleeve, a scarf,
a breath of wind or angel-wings.

iii

Dark tunnels open to the light
the journey's end of life now reached,
the thoughts recede and we go forth
a breath of wind on angel's wings.

“O friends! Be not careless of the virtues with which ye have been endowed, neither be neglectful of your high destiny…. Ye are the stars of the heaven of understanding, the breeze that stirreth at the break of day, the soft-flowing waters upon which must depend the very life of all men, the letters inscribed upon His sacred scroll.”
