MAN’S SUICIDE [Man, out of greed and selfishness, has exploited natural resources and polluted earth] I don't know what I can say. I can just express dismay. Man is so bent on suicide, Oblivious of the tide. He has polluted the earth, Drained it of inner reserve. There is such general scare About fresh water and air. Now global warming portends Flooding of the continents, Since melting of polar ice Causes sea level to rise. What a pity, greedy man does not wish to understand That there is enough for all, If we just heed Nature's call. Nature tells us, "Listen, man; Sustain you, surely, I can. Sustainable development, But, must be your sacrament. I’m benevolent mother. You may certainly bother Me for all your daily needs. My heart truly for you bleeds. But if you bleed me too much, To abnormal extent such, That, myself, I can't revive, How will you at all survive?" * Sustainable Development—Development at a balanced pace so as to ensure that earth’s resources are not exploited faster than they are be replaced. * Revival in the last stanza refers to the regenerative and recuperative capacity of the earth.
