| "And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead." (Luke 10:30, KJV) This is what we often think of when the concept of "on the side of the road" is related to The Bible. However, this good story, which illustrates helping others, who are in need, cannot be used as an illustration of being saved. For that, we must imagine a person lying on the side of the road, being completely dead after an accident of some sort. This is the case of everyone of us, spiritually, from natural birth forward, until Jesus regenerates us from the heart. “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;” (Ephesians 2:1, KJV) The word, "quickened," illustrates what must happen for the accident victim to be restored to life. An EMT must send 200 joules through the heart to quicken it back to its task of giving life to the whole body. The incident at the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil caused the entirety of the human race to be the body on the side of the road. As modern youth like to say, "We were unalived by sin. Only The Holy Spirit, The Eternal Spiritual EMT could quicken (or re-alive) us to be right with God, Now and Forever. It's The Lord's Choice to save whomsoever He will. "For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy." (Romans 9:15-16, KJV) The Christian's only task is to thank Him when he realizes he's alive. The Gospel: "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" (I Corinthians 15:3-4, KJV)   |
