Things that Make Me Smile
Things That Make Me Smile

I saw this entry and thought to myself, "You should remind yourself of some simple things in life that you are taking for granted." "Why is she taking things for granted?" you ask. Because for the past couple of days I have been feeling sorry for myself and now it is time I pull myself up out of the dumps and be—grateful, and smile.

Honorary Number One Position: God

Without Him, I wouldn't be here now. *Smile*

1. Being able to open my eyes and breathe one more day.
I have throat cancer. I have completed my radiation and chemo treatments, but I found out not long ago, it didn't get it all.

2. I have Dr. Appointments to perhaps start all over again.
         There is still hope.

3. I am able to still cook and feed myself.
I do have access to my stomach. I have a G-tube and can eat some pureed foods.
Not the same as the olden days, but it beats notin'. *BigSmile*

4. My grandkids.
I have 8 grandkids, 2 great-grandkids, and twins on the way.

5. My kids
I have 3 grown girls and 1 grown boy. My son is my caregiver.

6. My writing and WDC
I love to write and be submerged in a totally different world and make new friends with my characters. I loved getting so wrapped in it that I actually talk to them about the story. I love WDC because the members not only understand me, but they are a great and wonderful group of people.

7. Sweets
I love the comfort and the gratification I am able to extract from them. My Favorite is Carmel Flan.

8. My dogs and their unconditional love
I have three small rescue dogs, Molly (who can't get the day without talking), PJ (who can't get through the day or night without taking over my bed and trying to squeeze me out), and Jaco (who can't get through the day without smiling and showing his teeth).

9. The neighborhood stray cats
I'll admit it, I am guilty of feeding them. There are a lot, but I can't help it. *BigSmile*

10. The Sun peaking over the mountains in the morning.
I love to get up at daybreak so I can watch the sunrise, and smell the fresh air.

11. The train whistle in the middle of the night and 4:00 am.
I live in a mobile home park near the train tracks. Did you know that the trains sound different late at night than they do during the day? They do. During the day, they sound muffled and always in a hurry. Late at night, they have a hollow and lonely sound, as if they are lost.

12. Trees
Always standing tall, strong and at attention. So many of them have been around for years—generations. I look at them and feel the history that they must have seen. Especially the trees in the forests.

13. Babies and...
The softness and the sweet smell of innocence.

14. Flowers
The soft touch. delicate fragrance, and the short life span to remind us humans how short and delicate life is.

15. My Hubby - Barry.
He should have been listed as # 2. He is gone now. He passed in 2014. I will always remember and be grateful for having met and married him. We met in high school, married after graduation, and spent time at the Naval Air Station on Guam Island during Nam. We had good times and rough times and four kids. We had a great life. I will always love and miss him.

I know the prompt called for 30 things, but these are the most prominent and important things in my mind. I know and feel that there are more.

What moves and makes you smile? What do you think about to pull yourself up out of the dumps?
I would love to know. *BigSmile*

Until next time,

Write On!

Kristina
