Morning's Herald
The robin, morning's chorus leader,
though the noir of night still rules
his warble being the herald,
that announces the dawn’s arrival.
Too early to find a worm
or to hoard bits of string.
Too early for weaving
Instead, he sings.
And in established order,
the choir joins in.
While the doves may mourn the daybreak
as the rising fire splits the sky
with a joyous cacophony
this birdsong symphony
nudges those who slumber still
drawing those adrift in dreams
to the sweet, carefree trill
that the breach twixt night and day is healed.
