April 9 prompt

Prompt for Saturday, April 9, 2022

Saturday is a good day for creativity, I'm not sure why, it just is. Saturday is also a good day for sports. For summer and winter sports no matter which sport, Saturday is usually 'game day'. I, at one time, was glued to the TV every Saturday to watch NASCAR. Hockey Night in Canada is a staple in Canadian culture and it happens each Saturday night all winter long.

Hockey, football, baseball, basketball, car racing... It's getting a little stale. In today's creative writing blog prompt. Invent a new sport that will electrify the Saturday sports fans, so your sport becomes the latest 'REAL BIG THING'

So I think we need to bring back CROQUET! What do you think? It's not a new game. I remember playing it as a kid. My grandparents lived next door. They had a big shady, flat yard. We played there. My yard was shady, but bumpy and slanted. Not good for a croquet game.

So let's bring back croquet. The mallets, the wickets, the balls. You hit balls with mallets through wickets. You hit other people's balls and send them flying into the street or the other neighbor's yard, or over the bank into the creek. Great fun game.

You don't need a lot of athletic skill, anyone can play. You don't need any fancy equipment. I mean, I see it in the 'Bridgerton' series on Netflix. They're flouncing about on an English estate yard in empire waisted dresses and elegant suits. No shoulder pads or special shoes needed. No helmets or special spandex.

Of course, anger management is an issue for some, so the mallets could pose a problem. But still, CROQUET! Bring it back. Start the movement. And you pronounce it: crow-kay. For those of you that aren't in the know.
