Teff on REVs from Maine
April 11, 2006 at 10:09am
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ SECRETLY TEFF WANTS A PAYING REVIEWING JOB Subtitle: SO TEFF ON TEFF REVS A bit nippy here in Maine at 25 degrees. Spot the moose. He's huge!! Missed the shot. Sorry no photo ops. Snow dots glorious mountains, pines wave at us in bitter cold protest to go home, yank. On the MF3 things are getting underway for luck of the Irish. Publication wise. Baldwin's there with MS talk. ... [Read more]
Hey America, Teff's in Maine!!
April 11, 2006 at 9:12am
llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll The first thing thru a picture window at Great Western in a swanky suite, Teff marvels at Autumn color so brilliant, church steeples so high. People, Mainers so infatuated with hotel's online communication via the world wide web-ster that all crowd the office. Everyone has something to say to someone else, someone outside the realm of spilled coffee, piping hot herbal tea, Con... [Read more]
Still Editing, Closing Garden
April 11, 2006 at 8:54am
lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Actually Garden in full swing for Teffom Tomatoes are always late! On purpose, so under plastic we usually have tomatoes until Nov/ Dec. Green ones in the cellar last until Jan. Mulching around the patch and trimming dead branches around bottom of pine trees, placing the greens in buckets for Nov decorating. When Teffy outlines the flower garden, a large half circle with evergreens. This outdoor, natural display lasts until next spring, ma... [Read more]
Busy as a hornet!
April 11, 2006 at 8:39am
Usually, Teffy avoids diary type info. But I am soooo busy. I'm re-editing my novel completed in 2003, begun in Mar. 2000. Oh this isn't the first re-re-re-re edit, it is the final, final, final FINAL edit! At last. Thanks goes out to Ruby Red on a recent comment which came as a Godsend for this writer, snowed under with tense corrections. See, told you these are out there, and I am as guilty as the rest. Another thing we tend to do as writers, and I do often, is way... [Read more]
N'ORLANS, WE LOVE YOU!
April 10, 2006 at 1:40pm
$$$$$$ $$$$$$$ $$$$$$$ $$$$$$$ $$$$$ THERE COMES A DAY IN THE WORLD'S OCCUPATION KNOWN AS DISASTER'S LAST HOUR Online wherever you surf, folks speak out. Finally after filing pertinent research for Katrina, a direction for an article crests my brain, swimming tides of anger while utter discontent irks my bloodline. Lauding Southern sympathy, this journalist runs the gambit to a dead end stop. Note: Journalism consists of 5 W's and one H for HOW. Thus Who, What, Whe... [Read more]
Places to go, things to see
August 28, 2005 at 10:08pm
Hi Readers, Sometimes Teffy (myself) gets a rev reply, like HE should know better than this. Eh, well disgruntlement follows content bias, so authors may object to my revs, 18 out of 708. Always with the "You forgot to tell me how to improve my item." Yeah, okay tear it the hell up. Improve it yourself, yeh Needy SOB. Unsaid till now. My blog, not nice, however true. Of course, with the Ms. Moffett sig one sees plainly Teff is not a man. I seldom correct mistakes of this i... [Read more]
JackTheRipper Contest RE-OPEN!!!
August 28, 2005 at 10:18pm
Aug 18, 2005 Dear Readers, Yes, Jack's back by popular demand. This time The JackTheRipper Contest will not accept poetry, however. IF Essays, articles, short stories are your particular talents then please visit .... Also, Teff (Mary Moffett) spent days exploring the web, surfing for paying short story markets. While keeping an eye open for the best novel market, e-book or not. Any ideas or if anyone can point me in the right direction on that subject, oh p... [Read more]
TEFF ON TEFF
August 28, 2005 at 10:48pm
TEFF ON TEFF Writing is not always easy unless one makes it so. Plots come easer to me if given time to get them all sorted out. Nothing new there, many feel the same way. After The Ripper Returns to Whitechapel Court won the first place seed in WE WANT YOUR STORY CONTEST, against my better judgment I entered two more contests in July, writing and re-editing my ass off BTW. came in second. How about that, huh! Then ... for no good reason and against my better judg... [Read more]
Modest Gamble, Someone at the Door
May 16, 2006 at 8:22am
MODEST GAMBLE Little Modesta Gamble takes a modest gamble in hot pursuit of score points, caught up in a game of Trivial Pursuit with her granddad, Pappy Gamble. Modesta's eyes are sleepy, legs tucked under her in a small easy chair meant for a child's play house. Suddenly, both father and daughter are startled out of their reveries by a loud knock at the front door. Pappy's thinking about a time back in 1946 when he met a French mademoiselle in a cab... I WON FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!
April 10, 2006 at 12:22pm
I WON FIRST PLACE!!!!! Yes it's absolutely true but at the moment seems unbelievable even to me. Against all odds, the wild card, T.Teffom aka Mary Moffett takes first place in WE WANT YOUR STORY CONTEST. A Merit Badge for Writing will look terribly posh on my award's shelf next to the four reviewing badges. PLUS ******* A FIRST PLACE HIT can render a tad more prestige to Teffy's fiction credentials. The story that stayed the course which required countless edits and um... [Read more]

April 10, 2006 at 11:56am
Kittleman, How Dare You Insult Her Honor! Ridding herself of worries the Honorable Judge, a dwarf who takes to heart the feelings of the innocent who trespass against their will into the Cannista Co halls of justice. Mz Gamble is about to come head to head with minor trouble of her own making. "Kittleman, I'll see you in chambers in twenty minutes." Shuffling her handy ballpeen into the sleeve of her robe, Modesta who seems to fly about the courtroom urges Bailiff Regina... [Read more]

Babs Bennet, Giggler --- OH! Your Honor!
May 14, 2006 at 9:14pm
Babs Bennet, Giggler Oh! Your Honor! With a new line forming two-by-two outside double doors leading into the good judges's courtroom, several lightening bolts threaten Cannista Co Courthouse once more. Every male eye in the courtroom follows a tall, well dressed woman walking down the center aisle of the lightly inhabited courtroom. Perplexed by a leaky umbrella, in line to support her neighbor's son, (Ronnie, his arraignment pending for a traffic violation) ... frown... [Read more]

April 7, 2006 at 8:49pm
Hi, sorry for falling out, there just is so much to do with gardens, etc. Writing a few newies. Scapegoat was completed but not posted. Now it may need a chapter 3. Modesta Gamble, Midnight Midget Judge is chapter 2. Well, works in progress, go figure. BIG Thanks to Mispell for blog comment on my "hypnotic fiction." If you only knew how much Teff needed the boost from a fan. Next, we'll take a look at the defendants, chained together like paper dolls, all listing to... [Read more]

Writing Poll
April 7, 2006 at 8:23pm
Just curious. Wondering how ideas hit writers and poets on Writing.C. Maybe you post your work elsewhere. Do you sometimes post your writing around the web? Can you go to sleep, pondering a story, wake up, deliver a rough draft, outline the very start of the new piece? I can. Do you get sidetracked by current events which may effect your writing and these jump into your psyche? Are you solely going to talk about yourself forever from the first cup of coffee in the morning until t... [Read more]
Judge Gamble
May 13, 2006 at 12:03pm
In lieu of the raging thunder storm outside her courtroom, coupled with an array of a peculiar case never before brought to Cannista County and the county seat of Lennora, NC .... Modesta Gamble, midget judge is wary of a change in venue being carried out before her very eyes. Into the courtroom march ten individuals tethered together in the manner of a prison road gang. Outside the building, thunder so deafening the little judge throws her short arms around her head, covering her e... [Read more]

Prolouge & Chapter One Modesta Gamble, Midget Judge The courtroom in Cannista County, NC, nestled aloft the NC High Country like a diamond in the rough ... is about to come to order. Presiding over the affairs of state for the day one Modesta Gamble, semi-retired midget judge. Judge Gamble enters the courtroom from chambers. Superficial Flash One does realize even on a good day that by the year 2053, when investments made by social security participants via guvmint have utterly failed .... when the children's children are supporting a bureaucratic industrialized, wheeling dealing, military/ Christian guvmint that rules with an iron fist .... while the entire city depends on the charity of the rich comparable to the 1890's ... that libraries will have slots instead of shelves. Scapegoat
March 31, 2006 at 7:17am
"Scapegoat" by Teff is a short story with flair. Set in the High Country of NC a family pulls together with co-workers and neighbors to endure back taxes, torrential rains, flooded driveways and bank accounts gone awry. Soon to be delivered to The extended deadline above provides ample time to finish my latest short story already ringing in at over 17 single spaced pages. Watch out query letters, suggested markets are where now? The point? kinda busy wrapping this one... [Read more]

About Modesta Gamble
April 7, 2006 at 7:50pm
Modesta Gamble starts life as a pen name. Nothing less, nothing more, an alias. She stole my palm pilot, my radio and tries to undermine Teff's dignity. For example, last night when the very words "sack of lies" was depicted at an interview on Dateline re: The Da Vinci Code, Modesta turns green with jealousy, whereas I pat myself on the shoulder, content with a nose for news. Night owl that I am, Modesta is first up, hitting Public Reviews with a vengeance, 4/14/05. To my ... [Read more]
