Gratitude breaks the spell of Writers Block |
Staring at a blank page is like staring into a snowfield. The snow, untouched by civilization and unmarked by living creatures, blinds you for a few minutes, it glistens reflecting subtle shades of pure white and rainbows at odd angles. If you stare at the snow too long, you get lost in the interplay of light and shadow. As the day wears on, you become awestruck at the beauty of the snow's perfection. You marvel at the way an oak tree cast its ebony shadow across the pure white snow. You watch the tree's shadow change, grow and shrink, as Earth turns and the sun moves from morning to evening. If you stand out in the snow too long without moving, you risk snow bite or freezing. If you are fortunate, a red fox will walk across your line of sight. The fox will leave his footprints written in the snowfield. As you watch the fox move, the spell holding you in one spot staring at the snow is broken. You are free to go inside out of the cold and out of danger. I must say, writing 500 words a day isn't difficult, unless I'm attempting to write on a single subject. On Monday, October 28, 2013, I began posting my weekly goals at "Weekly Goals" ![]() "O SON OF BEING! Bring thyself to account each day ere thou art summoned to a reckoning; for death, unheralded, shall come upon thee and thou shalt be called to give account for thy deeds." However, the genres it will be under are Women's, Inspirational, and Spiritual with a tag of Religious. |
Poem: Editing a Novel Posted https://poet999.blogspot.com/2020/06/poem-editing-novel.html June 9, 2020 Sometimes, when I go to rewrite, I look at the plot and wonder what I--or perhaps my character-- was thinking. At other times, my plot is hidden beneath a plate of spaghetti without meatballs. |

Istijlál (Majesty), 18 Jamál (Beauty) 177 B.E. Thursday, May 14, 2020 I am thankful I started a new normal today by having my haircut short. Everyone is talking about a new normal. What is this new normal everyone is talking about? Is it making a appointment to have your haircut, while wearing a mask? Perhaps its letting go of the past, or starting the day with a new point of view. Maybe it's forgiving those who have put down and wronged you. What does a new normal mean to you? |
Jamál (Beauty), 14 Jamál (Beauty) 177 B.E. Sunday, May 10, 2020 Mother's Day Happy Mother's Day, Mama, I miss you so much more today than I did when you passed away. I remember the Mother's Day celebration, and the Holy Day commemorations that we attended together before Alzheimer's stole your memories. Now all I can do is say prayers for the advancement of your soul and hope to meet you again in the Abha Paradise. |
Jalál (Glory), 13 Jamál (Beauty) 177 B.E. Saturday, May 9, 2020 It's Saturday! It's the day before Mother's Day! Mother's Day is a day of joy and sadness, of laughter and tears, of memories that come unbidden into a daughter's mind. It's been 8 years, since I celebrated Mother's Day with my mother. On Mom's last Mother's Day, I remember her laughing, but I can't remember why she laughed; perhaps it was at a silly joke I told or something we watched on television. It doesn't matter why she was laughing, because it was her laughter that was important and keeps echoing through my mind. |

In this time of adversity and uncertainty-- when we don't know if the senior citizen who just delivered our lunch order has COVID-19-- we give thanks for our food, place everything in the hands of God, and get on with our day. Gratitude and thanksgiving helps us deal with the uncertainties of everyday life. Footnotes |

You don't have to get out of the house to get out of your rut, all you have to do is get up and chase the mouse through the house. What? You don't have a mouse in your house!
