Choses for buying a car

When buying a car you have a choice New or Used, Bright and Shiny, Old and Dull, Big Bucks or Reasonable.

I swing both ways when it comes to buying a car. It depends on what I need when I go looking. We’ve been a two-car family for all of our married life. One is used for every day use, the other is a four wheel Jeep (due to where we live) and we only use it when we go on vacation, want to be more comfortable or the weather requires four-wheel drive. We purchased both cars used and have been happy with our choices. I must admit, once I brought the Jeep home, I had buyer’s remorse. I got over it and it turned out great.

I did purchase several New cars over the years my first was a 1969 Chevy
Malibu, Then a 1972 VW Bug, 1975 Chevy Malibu, and 1983 Toyota Corolla.

My first used car was a 1956 Chevy Bel Air purchased by my folks for me when I graduated from high school. I certainly wish I had been able to keep that car but after graduating high school I join the Navy and my folks sold it. My other used purchases have been varied, 1979 Ford Club Wagon, 1946 Willys Jeep, 1983 Renault, 1992 Buick Park Avenue, 1999 Pontiac Bonneville, 2003 Toyota Matrix and a 2008 Jeep Liberty. We are fortunate that all of our used cars have been reliable and we kept them for a number of years.

The times have certainly changed since I purchased all of the above cars. With the advent of the Internet and all of the applications you can down load, finding a car at the price you want. There are apps to tell you the price you should pay, the cars history, Kelly bluebook listings and many more. If you due your research you should be able to level the playing field before you go into a dealership. Knowing what you want, the price you want to pay and the price the car is actually selling for is the knowledge you need to help you buy a car.

I did take my own advise and looked for a new car and I now own a 2016 Nissan Rogue and we've been very satisfied with it so far. I would go so far to say it will probably be our last car (the good Lord willing). We've sold our Jeep to our Granddaughter and so we are now a 1 car family. One is different but we do our best to keep our appointments straight so we aren't chasing our tales.
