Springing It

“You’re walking into a trap.” Caber said to Fuller as he grabbed his arm to hold him back.

“How do you know?” Fuller snarled as he wrenched away.

“I know the smell of treachery. Remember who I am.”

“You need to remember who I am as well,” Fuller said over his shoulder as he glided silently toward the gates.

The werewolf sighed as he followed. This alliance between himself and a vampire was fraying his temper.

“Keep eyes on the prize” he said under his breath.

The prize was a unique vaccine that had been developed in secret half a world away. The first shipment will arrive tonight in this seaport. Caber and Fuller had been chosen specifically by their respective clans to commandeer the shipment and bring it to a central meeting place in secret.

“If the human world knew about this discovery, they would destroy it!” he whispered to Fuller as he caught up with him.

“Just so. Follow me!” Fuller said as he transformed into a bat and flew over the gate.

Luckily, this was the night of the full moon, and Caber had changed to a wolf. Lithely, he scaled the gate and landed on the other side. Seeing the ships at anchor, he followed the single bat shape onto one of them. In no time, they both found the small box of vials.

“Fuller, let me carry the crate, I have volunteered to test its effectiveness against changing form.”

“Caber, I can have it transported with one flick of my finger! I too volunteered to test it against sunlight.”

The pair tried to stare each other down. Finally, the wolf turned to leave as a control to his temper. Fuller was gone. Caber sighed as he broke into a ground-eating lope to follow.
