Someone worked hard and retired

Workin' Man Unchained

There came a time,
I lay down to rest.
Like a tired old dog,
I'd given my best.

Worked all my life,
never held the cards.
Nothing given to me,
the lessons were hard.

Life is tough as hell,
has no magic potions.
Everyone's fighting
for the same old notions.

I ran out of the maze
and bolted my door.
I'd slaved life away,
didn't want any more.

The days long and dull
I'm the man, I am.
No one else cares!
bout' the workin' man.

Everyone gets there,
to that point in time.
Faces worn from care
with deep worry lines.

Now I watch and smile
as things never change.
I've walked my last mile
and broken those chains.
