eyes blink
and sparkle with tears
child’s outgrown toys
sit on the dusty bookshelf
the bubbly laughter
during friends’ phone calls
or Gwen Stefani’s resonating songs
now rest in silence.
though in pensive mood,
A/C hums patiently after short pauses
humidity fills the air
summer is here once again
and i wonder where you are.
