A poem about living with shame and consequences.
Woman of the Night

She wears a coat of loneliness,
A hood of shame for her head.
She walks the streets alone and sad,
Crawls into an empty bed.

She awakes to condemnation,
Puts her coat and hat back on.
She knows what others say of her,
She knows how far she's gone.

She dreams of lighter, carefree days,
When she walked the streets uncovered.
Without the brand she carries now,
Without the things she's suffered.

But that is just a fancy thought,
She knows she's gone too far.
Inside she has a heart that feels,
But to them she's just a scar.
