Poem regarding a major life decision of this lady.
She stands
At the edge of the world
Stares down upon the barren lands

Hair thrown back in her face
Like a threatening blow
From the cold north wind
There to protect

Another gust
Sweeps back her tresses
Confronting her
With the face of reality

A snow covered sod
Slips from its stance
Beneath her toes
And plummets downward
For what seems like hours
To the snowy abyss below

This is
The future
She is looking for
If
She lets go
Drops all cares and thoughts
Gives the wind her sacred feet
Lets herself be carried

But is she
To give the wind
Her feet
Those so long trusted soles
Whom have carried her not only
Through those times of trial
And suffering
But also through
Those few moments of bliss and joy

To accredit such trust
In a new
And powerful source
Of which ration is not known

But if
She
Can find the strength
To pull back
From the powerful wind
Take a step back from
The edge
She knows
There is another world
And the edge is just behind her

And she knows
It is
A world
Of trial and of suffering
A world of hard times and misfortune
With harsh winds
Howling in every direction
But she also knows
It is
A world of meaning

And she knows
In the strength she might find
To pull back
From the snow covered Alaskan abyss
She
Can find strength
To conquer any wind

She sees now
What she is looking upon
The cold
Face of reality
And the winds
That can help erase time
Or prolong it

She knows life can be bleak
But she now knows
It is no bleaker than the life of
That snow covered sod
Carried by the wind
To exist forever
In the non-existence of
The cold Alaskan abyss below

She pushes
Back against the howling winds
Fighting now
For the life she was so afraid to face

She reaches out
Blindly grabbing for a way back
But there are no welcoming hands
For she is all alone
On the desolate Alaskan highway
Looking down upon the abyss
At the future
She had once thought so promising

And the harsh
Threatening wind
Is now staring her in the face
Too powerful
She is thrown to the ground
Hanging onto the edge of the world

And now
Few thoughts
Remain in her head
Has she gone too far?
Has she questioned her own existence
To the point that there is no turning back?

She lies
At the summit
Of her mountain and her world
Hanging onto a hope
Of another chance
Of that life that once seemed so bleak
But now so promising

Slipping
Closer to the edge
Losing hope, determination
With each blow
Of the harsh North wind
Closer
Closer to the edge

She promises
Not to question any more
Gives in to her future
Looks to the threatening abyss below
Lets go of her tired bleak world
Lets go of the edge

Begins her decent
To the cold Alaskan abyss

And like a ray of light
A hand appears from the other side
