“Defiant, She Was”


She was forced unto this earth
A child of rape
She was birthed

Given eyes to see
That a great woman
She could be

Broken by the spirit of pride
Little secrets her family
Wanted to bury and hide

She prevailed against all odds
Deceived and scorned
Walked on like sod

Her attitude was so defiant
Of the people she was supposed to
Be most reliant

For her no one could be trusted
She would just as soon hide her heart
Till it played out and rusted
