Where I Belong
The moon is bright.
The wind howls,
Calling for me,
My sisters,
My brothers.
And the pain!
Shifting
I feel my heart
Stop, then start again
Giving me new life.
I answer the call,
My howl long, joyful.
I see the moon
With new eyes.
Hear the wind
With sharper ears.
But there is more
So much more.
I feel the night,
The elation of life,
The sweet taste
Of true freedom.
I run to join
The other howls
Echoing in the air,
My own cry
Harmonizing
With those
Of my family.
