Honorable Mention in Cubby's contest, "Honoring Our Soldiers" round 2
This received one of the Honorable Mentions in Cubby Contest.
Cub-bee

I remember many years ago,
your young and handsome face.
Time and age has started to show,
but you carry it with such grace.

I have often wondered
what it is you keep inside.
I know storms bring thunder,
but a soldier is full of pride.

I know you have viewed death,
stared it right in the face.
You are thankful for each breath,
and for that each life you embrace.

I once casually asked you
why you chose to serve?
With a quick answer so true,
this courageous answer I deserved:

"Freedom is worth the fight
not only for mine and yours.
Every soul has the right;
to be free as the eagle soars."

"I did it for my present,
and for a future for all.
Not one moment do I resent,
nor any country big or small."

"Each and every brave soldier's dream
is for peace and hope for all mankind.
It is not a gimmick or a scheme,
but our legacy we leave behind."

"Salute our honorable flag,
colors of red, white and blue.
There is no need to brag
just believe and be true."

These words I still recall
as I stare deep in your eyes.
I will forever stand tall,
you were ever so wise.

Always the hero in my eyes,
and a loving father so true.
Fought for this country's greatest prize,
and that's simply freedom for me and you.

God Bless us each and every one. Pray for each and all of our soldiers, young and old.
