Mom thinks so!
He told me of it when he got home
"I met your Mom," he said
"Are you dreaming?" I asked bluntly
"You know my Mom's long dead."

"My car broke down along the route
I went to an inn for the night
Your Mom met me at the door
She did give me a fright!"

"You're making it up!" I answered
"You're trying to tease or something."
"Listen," he urged, "please listen.
A message from her I bring."

"What message?" I asked in scorn
"You can't have spoken to her."
"But I did, if you'd only listen,
Please just listen my dear."

"She said to tell you she loves you
And so does your Dad
They're proud to have you as a daughter
Each day, you make them glad."

"Anyone could make that up,
It's what a parent would say.
You didn't meet my Mom
You're joking all the way."

"She also said," he whispered,
"That she thinks you're pretty
When here, she said you weren't
And that's a real pity."

How could he know this? I wondered
It was between Mom and me
It affected me for decades
That she thought I was ugly.

"She said she's sorry," he went on
"For making you feel this way
She wasn't a good mother to you
But she hopes you'll forgive her today."

He had really met her!
She cared for my feelings!
If this is what happens in haunted inns
Let's have more such meetings!
