A short poem.
A light from the side enlightens the cage,
I peek through the bars met by a pair of eyes.
Glowing eyes which are filled with rage,
I just pray that the sun will rise.

I am stuck in a nightmare,
Unable to move, think, smile.
My heart has jumped beyond repair,
The darkness of the night is vile.

The eyes are closing in,
Closer and closer to me.
I feel cold pricks on my skin,
And I want to yell, Let me be!

The sky grows darker and the only,
Light comes from the beast’s eyes.
I feel so scared and lonely.
And I pray that the sun will rise.

The darkness sets in my chest,
Where it eats through my soul.
My body finally invites it as a guest,
And it replaced my heart with a hole.

The beast attacks and I draw back,
Blood drips down my face like thick tears.
The beast continues to attack,
Intensifying all my fears.

I grab the cage bars and pull,
Determined to escape the beast.
The darkness teases me, Fool,
You will never be released.

I refuse to the darkness, hope flaring,
Flames of it engulfing my heart.
I stare at the beast, my voice daring,
And shout, “You won’t take me apart!”

The darkness has escaped my soul,
Whooshing out in a hurry.
The flames of hope fill the hole,
And the beast starts to scurry.

When you feel like you can only rage,
Turn your perspective and dream.
Look into the light and escape the cage,
Your soul will clear and gleam.

Don’t sit in the cage, stuck and sad,
Instead hope, and the bars will snap.
Don’t be depressed, envious, or mad,
So you will never again be in the trap.
