Barbados Dreaming

Barbados Calling Me

26

On a winter’s day In DC
When the snow falls,
And all is cold outside.

I often dreamt of escaping
To my island paradise
Barbados calling me.

Dreaming of watching
Tropical beach sunrise.

While drinking coffee
followed by Mt Guy rum sours.

Liming with the locals
Listening to steel drum music
and Socca singers
On Bajan beach.

Friday night fish fry
Banks beer in hand
Love of my life
By my side.

With a lime in the coconut
swimming in the ocean.
With water of purest blue

Watching the
night sky full of stars.
Thinking this is paradise.

NEW PROMPT:

Tomorrow is National Coconut Day in the USA! Write a story or poem using these exact phrases:

tropical beach sunrise
a lime in the coconut
with water of purest blue
night sky full of stars

Please bold the phrases

Note I lived in Barbados back when I was working as a US Diplomat.. I became a fan of both coconut water and rum, my favorite brand was Mt Guy oldest rum in the world. The Banks beer was the locally brewed beer not bad. The steel drum music was everywhere as well as Socca the Bajan version of Calypso and Reggae. Bajan is what locals call themselves and their dialect which is a mixture of English, and African phrases dating back to the colonial era.
