Observations while watching a robin in spring.
Little Robin

Come closer to me, my little robin.
I see you eye me cautiously,
but I am friendly and quiet,
as I sit on my porch, writing.

Reflections of the past year have
taught me how hurtful humans are.
I’ve been a victim of my own species;
Now I sit and silently watch you.

I won’t cause you any harm,
as you bounce along the ground,
in search of the perfect snack
or an ideal blade of grass for your nest.

Come closer to me, little robin.
Don’t be afraid, I’m not like the others.
I don’t want to hurt you or your family;
you’re safe within my presence.
