Waiting for a soldier to come home.
Waiting

She sat alone with just her memories
When love was fresh and new
Times were simple then
But that was before the war.

She thought about where they’d meet
Down by the banks of the Ohio
How the scent of his cologne
Wafted through the breeze around them.

They thought they had forever
Holding each other close to heart
His lips brushing gently against hers
Whispering sweet poems in her ear.

Days came and days went
Until he was called to go away
Hearts ached and tears rained
They said their mournful goodbyes.

Standing on a corner
She searched the countless faces
Looking for her soulmate in arms
Waiting on the love of a travelin’ soldier.
