This is a villanelle I wrote at 12am the week after I cut off a close friend of mind.
Blue’s vibrancy hasn’t been the same
It’s duller than dirty water’s wave
Yet who really is to blame

The joy I felt was set aflame
Gone was my heart, pain it soon gave
Blue’s vibrancy hasn’t been the same

It’s as if you had a false name
Did our good memories go to their grave?
Yet who really is to blame

Worse than Polonius but not for a game
My own self, “the foolish prating knave.”
Blue’s vibrancy hasn’t been the same

Tangled like the brush and hard to tame
This drama one could hardly brave
Yet who really is to blame

The most platonic yet meaningful “je t'aime”
Our old amicability, oh I so do crave
Blue’s vibrancy hasn’t been the same
Yet who really is to blame…
