July Prompt Copy Cat Contest Edgar Allen Poe Bells Poem
Hear the dinging of the bells
at the elevator.
Hear it ding, ding, ding
in the austere hospital lobby.
Each number lights up - one, two, three . . .
Soon I will climb aboard to see my newborn brother.
The LCD display shines bright.
I am filled with delight.
It descends down, down, down
in a kind of dizzy dither.
As it draws closer, sounds become deeper
of the ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding,
ding, ding, DING . . .
Finally, the door opens with a ping
Dad pulls me inside the jangling, clanging elevator.

Hear the clanking schoolhouse bells,
Silver bells.
What a hullabaloo as the hall swells
Exiting studious classrooms of day
How they resound in their clamorous way.
From the clatter of their voices
From their jolting, ringing noises,
Annoying for being out-of-tune.
What a din of confusion enters
As students gather at their lockers
While bells gloat
Of classes so soon,
Oh, from out of all school classrooms
What a spasm of cacophony
Voluminously interrupts.
How it erupts,
How it disrupts,
On the future, how it tells
Of the destinies that must not fail.

Hear the pinball machine's tinkly bells.
The merriment of the arcade sounds swell.
Hear the ting, ting, ting
In the dim video hall.
The arcade seems to call,
beckoning me into its dark abyss,
Demanding quarters, quarters, quarters.
In a greedy way, it calls in loiters
To the tintinnabulation that so melodically sings
From the tings, tings, tings, tings, tings, tings,
tings, tings, tings, tings,
And the jangling of quarters and the clanking of tings.

Hear the loud and long bells -
Booming bells,
Belting forth in the foggy bay's starkness.
How they brashly toll in the murky darkness.
Shrieks cut through the thickness of the fog.
Clamorously calling to the ships in the sound.
Signalling safety to all around.
How they boom and bash and roar
Warning of danger to those on board.
Pulsating booming blasts warn of foggy sinks and swells
Yet the ear distinctly tells
Navigation by the bells,
Saving sailors from the bosom os the sea.
Calling captains to safety
The tolling of the bells, bells, bells, bells, bells,
Bells, bells, bells, bells, bells.
In the booming and bleary blasting of bells.
